Reflection: OCR ATL Interview

I interviewed with the Office of Civil Rights within the US Department of Education for a summer legal intern position. I ended up taking this summer position. Here are my post interview reflections:

  • Three women!!!

  • Phone interviews>>>>>

    • I feel more eloquent

      • Bizarrely eloquent for 9 AM

    • But easy to get distracted

  • Made em laugh c:

  • Interested in the Bethea brief (Specifically the fact abt sex offender registries not being punitive)

  • Candidness went a long way - they appreciated knowing about my other offers and my very near deadline for applying to the EPIC grant

  • They pushed me to be more demanding wow I love women

  • Working under the supervision of multiple attorneys

  • I really got this job by being friendly and networking! So….wow!!

  • Good question for future interviews may be

    • What kind of writing samples might I produce through this position

    • Will there be mid summer evaluations? What sorts of things do you look for?

      • Would you be able to give me specific feedback about [growth area]

  • What's the best criticism you've ever got?

    • I said something about having trouble asking for help, but I need to refine that story

  • What prior experience do you have with civil rights?

  • Tell us about yourself

    • My answer to that was rambling but funny in the end

  • What experience do you have with research?

    • I talked about ELSSCAP

  • Why THIS office in particular

  • I said I talked to [REDACTED CLASSMATE NAME] about  her experiences
